Billy Corgan in Masters Of Horror

Former Smashing Pumpkins singer and guitarist Billy Corgan will score an episode of the upcoming Showtime series, Masters Of Horror, according to Fangoria.com. Corgan will compose the music for a segment titled "Dance Of The Dead," which is being directed by Tobe Hooper, director of the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Poltergeist. Series creator Mick Garris said, "It's a very extreme episode, and I expect the music will be pretty hard-hitting."

"Dance Of The Dead," based on a 1954 short story by Richard Matheson, is set in a post-apocalyptic future where reanimated corpses are used to entertain the living.

Corgan has previously contributed music to the 1999 film, Stigmata. His first solo album, TheFutureEmbrace, came out this past June.

Masters Of Horror, an anthology of 13 one-hour episodes each directed by a renowned horror filmmaker, will debut on the Showtime cable network on October 28th.

A soundtrack album featuring System Of A Down singer Serj Tankian, Mudvayne, Rise Against, Thursday, Shadows Fall and others arrives on October 18th.
